2027 elections: Natasha Akpoti calls for PDP reconciliation after Appeal Court judgment

The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to embrace reconciliation and close ranks following the recent Court of Appeal judgement on the party’s national convention dispute.

In a statement she signed on Tuesday, the lawmaker said the ruling presents an opportunity for the party to rebuild internal cohesion, strengthen its democratic processes, and reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She stressed the need for the PDP to move past internal litigations and focus on unity, warning that prolonged legal disputes could negatively affect the political ambitions of party members preparing to contest future elections.

Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that as a party founded on democratic principles and respect for the rule of law, the PDP must now prioritise dialogue, compromise, and collective progress.

She also emphasised that political parties serve as platforms for citizens seeking elective offices, adding that internal disagreements should not be allowed to jeopardise the aspirations of members at the grassroots and national levels.

The senator further urged party stakeholders to demonstrate maturity and statesmanship by resolving their differences in the interest of the party’s survival and electoral competitiveness.

She also called for the organisation of an inclusive and credible national convention in line with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that such a move would demonstrate the party’s readiness for future electoral contests.

Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to the unity and growth of the PDP and encouraged members across the country to remain committed as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.
