The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, has urged auditors in the state to adopt standard practices in order to strengthen the fight against corruption across ministries, departments and agencies.
Oladiji gave the charge when members of the Association of Public Service Auditors of Nigeria, Ondo State chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in his Akure office.
The speaker stressed the need for auditors to reposition the profession in line with modern standards and address emerging financial accountability challenges.
He noted that the traditional analogue auditing system had become outdated, urging the newly inaugurated executives of the association to embrace digital and innovative auditing methods.
The speaker also reaffirmed the commitment of the state to support initiatives that would strengthen the auditing system and improve transparency in public institutions.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ondo APSAN, Mr Iyantan Olorunwa, said the visit was initiated to appreciate the speaker and members of the assembly for their support during the passage of the recently approved audit bill, adding that the meeting also provided an opportunity to formally introduce the association and its newly inaugurated leadership to the lawmakers.
He explained that the association had already begun training its members, including programmes, on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance efficiency and innovation in the auditing profession.
