2027: Ex-Ondo deputy governor declares bid for senate seat

By Boye Oyeyemi

Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has declared his intention to contest the Ondo South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Ajayi made the announcement in Akure while addressing political stakeholders and journalists, presenting himself as a capable candidate for the position.

He explained that his ambition is rooted in years of experience across various levels of governance, ranging from grassroots leadership to national representation.

According to him, his decision to join the race followed extensive consultations with political leaders and supporters across the state.

Furthermore, Ajayi said his goal is to improve development in the district and ensure greater federal presence for the benefit of the people.

He added that his political journey, which includes serving as councillor, local government chairman, member of the House of Representatives, and deputy governor, has adequately prepared him for the Senate.

On the issue of equity, Ajayi argued that his local government deserves the senatorial seat, noting that it has not produced a senator since 1999.

Meanwhile, he dismissed reports of a rift with incumbent senator Jimoh Ibrahim and assured that the All Progressives Congress would follow due process in selecting its candidate.
