2027: Fayemi warns Ekiti APC aspirants against endorsement politics

By Boye Oyeyemi

Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has cautioned aspirants of the All Progressives Congress against seeking endorsements ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to face party primaries.

Fayemi advised party members and supporters to ignore speculations about endorsements for National Assembly positions, insisting that no aspirant should rely on perceived backing from party leaders.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Isan Ekiti on Saturday, the former governor stressed that the Electoral Act recognises both consensus and direct primaries as legitimate methods for selecting candidates.

He explained that consensus could only be adopted where all aspirants willingly agree, adding that elections become inevitable when such agreement is absent.

Fayemi also raised concerns over the influx of new members into the party, warning that established members must not be sidelined in the process.

According to him, while the party welcomes new entrants, due process must be followed to prevent individuals from taking undue control of its structure.

He further challenged aspirants to demonstrate their popularity through primaries, noting that credible contenders should not fear the process but instead rely on their track records.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti APC Chairman, Sola Elesin, reaffirmed that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has not endorsed any aspirant, maintaining that the party remains committed to transparency and fair competition.
