Ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has declared his support for the Not-Too-Young-To-Rule initiative.
Speaking at the 70th birthday and 50th ministry anniversary of Rev. (Dr.) Moses and Pastor (Mrs.) Funmilayo Aransiola, held on Friday at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, the governor emphasized the need to give Nigerian youths more opportunities to participate in leadership and governance.
“I became governor at 51, and yet I remain the youngest democratically elected governor in the history of Oyo State. After my emergence, I also produced the youngest Speaker in the state’s history, who is currently the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers in Nigeria. So, I will fully support the Not-Too-Young-To-Rule agenda,” Makinde said.
Makinde also noted that the country’s current challenges would persist unless all Nigerians commit to changing the country’s narrative.
While congratulating the celebrants on attaining the milestone age of 70 in sound health, Makinde acknowledged the impact of their ministry and prayed for long life, good health, continued impact, and enlargement in their work for God.
Also speaking, a former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Segun Mimiko, called for the restructuring of the country, stressing that the current structure would continue to keep both the people and the nation down.
Earlier, the guest speaker, Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN), in his lecture titled “Nigeria: From Where Comes Our Help”, emphasized that insecurity, wastage, and leakages in government are major factors hindering Nigeria’s growth.
The event was attended by the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, represented by the Ekiti State Head of Service, as well as top Oyo State government functionaries, traditional rulers, religious leaders, captains of industry, and other dignitaries.
