2027: Makinde knocks Adelabu over ‘Èmi Lókàn’ remark

By Adejayan Gbenga –
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has taken a subtle jab at the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, following the latter’s viral “Èmi Lókàn” declaration while unveiling his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Adelabu, in a widely circulated video, had proclaimed that after contesting in 2019 and 2023, it was now his turn to lead Oyo State, echoing the popular “Èmi Lókàn” slogan that gained prominence during the 2023 general elections.
Speaking during the Oyo State Stakeholders’ Consultative and Engagement Meeting on the 2026 Budget held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Governor Makinde said the people of Oyo had outgrown “the politics of entitlement and theatrics.”
“Oyo State has gone beyond the politics of ‘Èmi Lókàn.’ Oyo State has gone beyond stunt politics. The people of Oyo will no longer be swayed by slogans or emotions. They will ask you: will you be able to do the work?” Makinde said.

The governor, addressing an audience that included traditional rulers, community leaders, economic experts, and civil society representatives, emphasised that governance in Oyo had evolved into an era of service delivery and accountability.
“Our people are now wiser. They have seen that leadership is not about who feels it’s their turn, but about who can truly serve and deliver results,” he added.
