Sekinat Tolanikawo Akande, wife of popular fuji musician Abass Akande, has declared her intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
Akande made the declaration on Tuesday at St. Cyprian’s Primary School, Oluyoro, where she confirmed that she would run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She said her decision to join the race was driven by her desire to serve the people and improve the welfare of constituents through effective representation.
Akande, also known as Eruobodo I, promised to bring hope, ensure good representation, and promote gender balance if elected.
According to her, she is passionate about speaking for the people and addressing their needs, noting that she aims to be a strong voice for residents of the constituency.
Reacting to her announcement, the Oyo State Women Leader of the APC, Adekemi Opatunde, called on party members to avoid gender discrimination and support women seeking political positions.
Opatunde emphasised the importance of inclusiveness in politics, stating that women have the capacity to contribute meaningfully to governance and party development.
She urged party stakeholders to provide a level playing field for female aspirants, adding that fairness and equal opportunities would strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
