2027 presidential election is predictable, focus on 2031 – Ajulo, SAN, urges politicians

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kayode Ajulo, has said the outcome of the 2027 presidential election is already predictable, urging political actors to shift their focus to preparations for the 2031 polls.
Ajulo, in a statement issued on Wednesday, argued that Bola Ahmed Tinubu currently holds a strong advantage over potential challengers due to what he described as a weak and disorganised opposition.
He, however, maintained that democracy must remain competitive, cautioning against political contests that are already foreseeable and may waste national resources.
“As a lawyer and committed democrat, I believe the political space must remain open and competitive, but democracy must not be sacrificed on the altar of wasteful, foreknown competitions,” he said.
The senior lawyer called on politicians across party lines to pause and reassess their strategies, urging a period of reflection and reorganisation ahead of future elections.
“I humbly call on politicians to take a deserving pause, reflect deeply, and use this period for genuine restrategisation and reorientation rather than futile political agitation,” Ajulo added.
He also advocated the revival of mass mobilisation for self-reliance social justice and economic recovery as a tool for political and civic reorientation in the country.
Ajulo concluded that attention should be directed toward building a stronger political framework ahead of 2031, warning that failure to prepare adequately could result in continued instability and inefficiency in Nigeria’s electoral process.
