The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, has declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Alli, who represents Oyo South on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the declaration on Friday, stating that he seeks the party’s ticket for the governorship race.
The APC chieftain, who also holds the traditional title of Ekaarun Balogun of Ibadanland, formally announced his ambition at an event held at the Police Field in Yemetu, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. The event was attended by thousands of APC leaders, chieftains, and supporters.
Prominent political figures present include the senator representing Oyo Central, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, and members of the House of Representatives such as Akin Alabi (Egbeda/Ona Ara), Aderemi Oseni (Ido/Ibarapa East), Akeem Adeyemi (Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West), Olafisoye Akinmoyede (Akinyele/Lagelu), Tajudeen Abisodun (Saki East/Saki West/ATISBO), and Senator Hamzat Adeseun.
Others in attendance were former Deputy Governor, Iyiola Oladokun; Asiwaju Yemi Aderibigbe; and Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle.
Speaking at the gathering, Alli said his decision to contest was driven by a desire to further develop the state, adding that he possesses the requisite qualities needed of a leader.
“After consultations with various stakeholders, including traditional rulers and political leaders, I am here to formally declare my ambition for the office of Governor of Oyo State.
“I have served as Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government Area and as Secretary to the Oyo State Government under our father, Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja. I ensured government policies were properly implemented. As Senator representing Oyo South, I have consistently voiced the concerns of my constituents,” he said.
