2027: Why Makinde won’t run for presidency – Fayose

By Adejayan Gbenga

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodelele Fayose, on Friday said that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State will not contest the presidency in 2027.

Fayose made this known while featuring on Channels TV’s Politics Today, noting that the Oyo State governor will resist being used against another Yoruba candidate.

According to Fayose: “When I saw an advert running on social media — with all due respect to Makinde — I forwarded it to him. He called me to say he’s not running and doesn’t know anything about those fliers. He has not told me otherwise.

“I will not put words in his mouth; I’ll believe whatever he told me as a brother. He said he will not be used against a Yoruba man for president.

“I stand here to say Makinde will not run for president — except if anything changes.”

Fayose also commented on the challenges of leadership: “There is no day you will satisfy people, anywhere in the world. You own nothing—your wife is yours until you pass, your house is yours until you pass.

“Today, you are not seen as honourable until you leave office. People are now saying Jonathan should come back — the same Jonathan they drove out many years ago. It is better to allow Asiwaju to complete his tenure because this is a southern slot. Let him fix the country, then we can return the presidency to the North. The problem didn’t start today, and it won’t end today; everyone is just trying to make things better.”

He also stated that President Bola Tinubu should be allowed to complete a second term in office.
