2027: Division will hurt your chances, Hayatu-Deen warns opposition

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has called for a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying Nigeria’s growing challenges require collective action beyond the capacity of any single party or individual.
Hayatu-Deen made the call on Saturday while speaking on the sidelines of the National Opposition Summit in Ibadan.
According to him, unity among opposition parties and leaders is no longer optional if Nigerians are to be presented with a credible and viable alternative in the next election cycle.
“Nigeria is at a defining moment,” he said. “The deepening insecurity, the crushing cost of living and the steady erosion of democratic space demand a collective response. This is not about personal ambition, it is about national rescue.”
He warned that continued fragmentation within opposition ranks would only strengthen the current political order and prolong the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians.
Hayatu-Deen therefore urged opposition leaders to move beyond rhetoric and show genuine commitment to collaboration, sacrifice and shared purpose.
At the summit, he held consultations with several prominent political figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
He also met with the summit’s conveners, Professor Jerry Gana of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Kashim Imam, a move seen as part of growing efforts to build opposition consensus ahead of 2027.
