28-year-old man arraigned over alleged N1.7m fraud in Ondo

A 28-year-old man, Amos Sokindji, was on Thursday arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged theft and fraudulent conversion of N1.756 million.

The defendant was docked on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and conversion of entrusted funds.

The prosecutor, Inspector Suleman Abdullateef, told the court that the offences were allegedly committed in February 2026 at ABC Bread Bakery Flour Store in Oda Town and Flakem Bread in Oba-Ile, Akure.

Abdullateef alleged that the defendant stole N1.57m belonging to one Bello Lukeman and another N186,000 belonging to Mrs. Akinyemi Olufunke.

The prosecutor further told the court that Sokindji fraudulently converted the money to personal use without the consent of the owners.

According to him, the alleged offences contravened Sections 383 and 390(6) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him before the court.

Defence counsel, G.O. Bernard, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms, while Magistrate O. Omotosho admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 26, 2026, for further hearing.
