Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 29-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Temitope Ikumuniwon, and recovered a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and a battle axe during a surveillance operation in Igbotako, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the suspect was apprehended during a routine surveillance operation by officers attached to the Igbotako Division.

Jimoh said the operation was carried out around 7 a.m. on June 17, 2026, at Omotosho Motor Park along the Lagos/Ore Expressway, where the suspect was intercepted while attempting to board a commercial vehicle heading to Iju-Oke after displaying suspicious behaviour.

According to the statement, a search of the suspect’s cross-body bag led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live cartridge and a battle axe, after which he was immediately taken into custody.

“The suspect was immediately arrested, while the recovered exhibits were secured as evidence. Preliminary investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the firearm, the intended use of the weapons and his possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities,” Jimoh stated.

He added that efforts had been intensified to identify and apprehend other suspected accomplices, noting that the case would be transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further investigation before the suspect is charged to court.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, while also acknowledging the support of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

The police further urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality across the state.
