32 transformers, 80MW plant to power The Ark worship complex – Oyedepo

Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has revealed that 32 transformers will be installed to power The Ark, the massive new worship complex under construction at Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State.

Speaking during the second service on Sunday, May 4, 2025, Oyedepo explained that the scale of the building demands a significant energy supply due to its extensive infrastructure and facilities.

The Ark, which is expected to seat 109,000 worshippers, will feature 129 elevators, travelators, and escalators to aid movement across its four floors — particularly for the elderly and persons in need of healing. The complex will also house a 5,000-capacity youth church and a 20,000-seat children’s church.

In addition, a new twin-tower mission headquarters for church staff will require reliable access to vertical transportation, as the use of staircases may not always be feasible.

While Canaanland currently operates a 15MW power plant commissioned in 2016, Bishop Oyedepo noted that it would be insufficient to meet the demands of The Ark and other expanding facilities. A new 80MW power plant is reportedly under construction and is expected to be completed ahead of the building’s dedication.

The Ark will also utilize a 1MW solar energy system and an eco-conscious design that captures rainwater from the roof for flushing over 1,200 restrooms using gravity-based systems.

Bishop Oyedepo emphasized that Canaanland has never experienced a full electricity blackout since 1999 — a remarkable feat in a country where power outages are routine.

The new power infrastructure is expected to serve not just The Ark, but also Covenant University, Canaan City, and potentially parts of the neighboring Ota area.
