The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, following multiple petitions filed against him.
Speaking to BBC News Pidgin on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that Otse was taken into custody over allegations of cyberstalking.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised by several petitioners,” Oyewale said.
He added that Otse would be released once he meets his bail conditions and confirmed that the commission is preparing to take the matter to court.
“We will release him when he meets the bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible. We are law-abiding,” Oyewale noted.
Addressing speculation linking the arrest to Guaranty Trust Bank, Oyewale clarified that the petitions came from multiple individuals and emphasized the commission’s duty to protect complainants.
Preparations are currently underway for Otse’s formal arraignment.
