38 Ekpoma students to be released following protests — Presidency

The Presidency has announced that 38 students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) arrested in connection with recent protests in Ekpoma are set to be released shortly.

According to a statement issued on Monday, the decision follows timely and constructive interventions by several stakeholders, including the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo; the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande; and the Honourable Commissioner for Education in Edo State.

The statement also acknowledged the efforts of the student community, whose engagement contributed to the peaceful resolution of the matter.

Hon. Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their commitment to dialogue, due process, and the welfare of students.

“The timely interventions and the dedication of all parties involved have ensured a peaceful resolution,” the statement added.

The Presidency commended the roles of government officials and the student community in fostering cooperation and maintaining peace during the incident.

Authorities have assured that measures will continue to be taken to promote dialogue and the welfare of students across the nation.
