4 died, 5 injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident

Four persons died while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident involving a Toyota sienna and a truck at old toll gate, Ogere on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Mr Ahmed Umar, confirmed the accident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Monday.
Umar explained that the accident occurred at 3:22pm and was caused by excessive speed and loss of control on the part of the driver of the Toyota Sienna.
The sector commander stated that the Toyota Sienna marked KJA 738 ET lost control and collided with the truck which was making a reverse on the expressway.
“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed which led to loss of control on the part of the Sienna which collided with the truck marked KMC 548 YD when the truck driver was trying to reverse.
“A total of nine people were involved which comprised of six men, two women and one child. Five people were injured and four persons died,” he said.
Umar added that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere for treatment while the deceased were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara.
He advised motorists to use common sense speed limit especially during the rainy season when visibility was poor.
