540 aspirants jostle for positions as Lagos APC holds LGA congress across 20 Councils

…27 executives to emerge per Council
No fewer than 540 aspirants will contest various positions across the 20 local government areas (LGAs) in Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) local government congress in Lagos State.
The Chairman of the five-man APC Screening Committee, Nungji Salama, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja.
Salama assured members of a seamless and rancour-free exercise, stating that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure a smooth process across the 20 LGAs.
He noted that the successful conduct of the ward congress had paved the way for the LGA congress, describing the stakeholders’ meeting as crucial to the success of the exercise.
Salama thanked aspirants for offering themselves to serve the party and urged them to remain committed to its peace and progress, stressing the need for a peaceful atmosphere throughout the process.
He added that 27 executives would emerge in each LGA and explained that consensus arrangements would be ratified where there was unanimous agreement.
In his welcome address, Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, commended the screening and technical committees for laying the groundwork for the congress.
Ojelabi urged party leaders to deepen their understanding of the newly assented Electoral Act and charged successful candidates to see their emergence as a call to service, emphasising inclusive leadership that accommodates youths and women.
