65th anniversary: Policy reforms setting Nigeria on path to inclusive growth — Tinubu

By Kunle Sanni –

President Bola Tinubu has said his administration is steering the Nigerian economy towards a more inclusive and sustainable path, with increased investment in critical sectors that directly impact citizens’ welfare.

Speaking on Wednesday during his nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, Tinubu explained that his government has channelled resources into education, healthcare, agriculture, national security, infrastructure, and social investment programmes.

“Our administration has redirected the economy towards a more inclusive path, channelling money to fund education, healthcare, national security, agriculture, and critical economic infrastructure such as roads, power, broadband, and social investment programmes. These initiatives will generally improve Nigerians’ quality of life,” he said.

The President noted that recent policy reforms have given federal, state, and local governments more financial capacity to meet grassroots needs and address development challenges.

“As a result of the tough decisions we made, the Federal, State, and Local Governments now have more resources to take care of the people at the lower level of the ladder,” Tinubu added.

In his inaugural speech in 2023, President Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidies, citing the absence of any such provisions in the 2023 Appropriation Act. As a result, the price of petrol rose by approximately 200 per cent, from around ₦200 to over ₦500.
