The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has secured 974 convictions within the first quarter of 2026, including 11 drug kingpins who were sentenced to a combined 254 years in prison.
The convictions, recorded between January and March, comprised 899 males and 75 females, with monthly figures of 265 in January, 316 in February, and 393 in March.
Among the top convicts is Adegbite Solomon, also known as Obama, who was sentenced to 130 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos for multiple drug-related offences.
Similarly, Ridwan Animashaun was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Ibadan, having previously been convicted for a similar offence.
In another development, Rauf Asogba and Seun Olaniyi were each sentenced to 17 years imprisonment for trafficking large quantities of illicit drugs.
Furthermore, other convicts, including Jonathan Nuhu and Idris Yusuf, received long jail terms, while several others were handed seven-year sentences across different courts nationwide.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, described the outcome as a major milestone in the fight against drug trafficking.
He commended the judiciary and officers of the agency for their efforts, noting that swift prosecution and sentencing serve as a strong deterrent while urging Nigerians to support ongoing operations with credible information.
