Edo, NNPC to establish 10,000bpd condensate refinery

The government of Edo State and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited have confirmed their readiness to collaborate on establishing a 10,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) condensate refinery in Edo State.

This was disclosed in a press release authorized by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Patrick Akhere Ebojele,PhD. According to the statement, the refinery will be completed within 24 to 36 months, and will be situated across Oredo and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas, respectively.

Western Post reports that once operational, it is expected to produce approximately 20 truckloads of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 10 truckloads of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) to serve Edo State and its neighboring regions.

While addressing NNPC’s officials at the government house, Governor Monday Okpebholo, described the investment as a reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He also emphasized that the refinery would create jobs, reduce poverty, and strengthen the state’s industrial base. He went further to assure the NNPC team of his administration’s full support for a successful project.

He said, “We are delighted to welcome this major investment to Edo State. My administration is committed to creating jobs and reducing poverty, in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is a huge step for Edo, and we are proud to be part of it.”

He added that the state government would provide land, Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), security, and all other necessary logistics to facilitate the project.

The Chief Downstream Investment Officer at NNPC, Mr. Ikedichi Dick-Nwoke, noted that upon completion, the refinery would position Edo State as a major energy and industrial hub in the South-South region, while also boosting investor confidence and aligning with Governor Okpebholo’s industrialization agenda to significantly expand employment opportunities for Edo residents.
