FCT Polls: AMAC chairman praises voting process, urges improved logistics

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections, describing the exercise as smooth and well-managed.
Maikalangu, who is seeking re-election, spoke to journalists shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 004, Garki Village, on Saturday. He commended the efficiency of the accreditation and voting process, noting that he was able to cast his ballot in under three minutes.
“I am impressed with the turnout today; you can see for yourself that my people are out here to vote. I am satisfied with the process. In less than three minutes, I cast my vote. Everything is okay,” he said.
Commenting on voter engagement, Maikalangu observed that local government elections tend to attract higher participation in rural areas compared with urban centres. “Local government elections are meant for local people. When you go to remote areas, you see higher turnout than in the city. From Garki down to Nyanya, my people are out to vote. The process is smooth,” he added.
While praising the overall conduct of the exercise, Maikalangu called for improved logistics ahead of future elections, particularly the 2027 general polls. He noted reports of delays in the delivery of electoral materials to some areas. “There is a need to improve logistics because some areas have yet to receive their materials. But overall, the voting process is smooth,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the outcome of the elections, Maikalangu described the area as his stronghold and pledged to continue prioritising youth empowerment and the delivery of democratic dividends if re-elected.
“My people know me; I have been delivering for them. By the grace of God, if I am re-elected, I will give them more dividends of democracy,” he said.
