FG seeks partnership with UNDP to drive Tinubu’s reform agenda

The federal government has commended the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its longstanding support to Nigeria through various development initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the agency to advance ongoing reform programmes.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, gave the commendation on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while receiving the UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Elsie Attafuah, during a courtesy visit.
Gbajabiamila praised the agency’s contributions across multiple sectors and expressed appreciation for its support towards the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He emphasised the importance of the Federal Government’s Made-in-Nigeria policy, describing it as a key component of the President’s industrialisation drive aimed at boosting local production, strengthening value chains, and creating employment opportunities.
According to him, the initiative represents an expansion of the local content policy previously implemented in the oil and gas sector, with a broader focus on stimulating economic growth and enhancing national productivity.
The Chief of Staff also called for UNDP’s support in promoting greater participation of women in politics and governance, noting that the agency’s experience in other African countries could help Nigeria achieve progress in this area while respecting cultural and religious sensitivities.
He further identified poverty reduction, education, agriculture, and the mining sector as additional areas where Nigeria would welcome UNDP’s technical support and partnership.
In her remarks, Attafuah expressed appreciation for the strong working relationship between Nigeria and the UNDP, noting that her two-year tenure in the country has been marked by productive collaboration.
