The widow of the teacher allegedly killed during the recent attack on schools in Oyo State, Mrs Mary Oyedokun, has appealed to the government and security agencies to recover her husband’s remains for proper burial.
Mrs Oyedokun made the emotional appeal following the abduction of her husband, Mr Michael Oyedokun, a teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The attacks reportedly affected Community High School, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, where between 46 and 48 pupils and teachers were abducted by the assailants.
Public outrage had earlier trailed the incident after a video allegedly showing the killing of Mr Oyedokun surfaced online and went viral on social media platforms.
The development sparked widespread condemnation from Nigerians, including civil society organisations and celebrities, who called for stronger security measures and swift action against the perpetrators.
In another emotional video circulating on Friday, Mrs Oyedokun was seen speaking in Yoruba as she pleaded with the Federal Government to assist in recovering her husband’s body for burial.
“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she said tearfully.
Meanwhile, security agencies have reportedly intensified rescue operations to secure the release of other abducted victims still in captivity. The Oyo State Government had earlier assured residents that both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies were being deployed to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
