The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 26-year-old man, John Butren, over an alleged attempted murder in Owo, saying the suspect attacked a resident with a machete during a dispute.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the incident occurred on May 20 at Alajawo Camp in Owo Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly inflicted severe machete cuts on one Moses Paul, 30, leaving him with deep injuries on the head and shoulder.

Jimoh said the case was reported at the A Division, Owo, by a resident identified as Esther Agunloye, after which detectives moved swiftly to the scene and recovered the cutlass allegedly used in carrying out the attack.

“The injured victim was immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively,” the statement read.

The police added that the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during investigation and had since been charged to court and remanded at the Owo Correctional Facility.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, warned residents against violence and other acts capable of disrupting public peace.

He said, “The command has zero tolerance for violent crimes, assault and all acts capable of threatening public peace and security. Members of the public should always resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means rather than resorting to violence.”
