Makinde planning to restrict opposition campaigns — Oyo APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has accused Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration of allegedly planning to restrict opposition campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The opposition party made the allegation as political parties, candidates and their supporters prepare for electioneering campaigns ahead of the polls.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC said it was reacting to a recent notice by the state government announcing plans to impose regulatory and financial requirements on candidates and their supporters intending to use outdoor advertising facilities, including billboards, for campaigns.
The party alleged that it had uncovered plans by the state government to deny opposition candidates access to outdoor advertising opportunities, claiming the move was aimed at making only candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) visible across the state.
APC described the alleged directive to the Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA) as an attempt to clamp down on opposition campaigners, adding that such action would undermine democratic principles.
The party also alleged that the ruling party in the state had previously been responsible for the destruction and defacement of opposition campaign materials, including billboards and posters, while describing the latest development as “a mockery of democracy.”
Oyo APC, however, assured residents that the alleged restrictions would not stop the party from taking its Renewed Hope Agenda message to voters and seeking their support during the 2027 elections.
The party urged Governor Makinde and his administration to avoid actions capable of undermining democracy and the rule of law.y
