JUST IN: NCDC identifies two suspected Ebola cases in north-east Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says it has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the north-east region of the country.
The agency disclosed this in a post on its X account on Saturday, saying both individuals had been isolated while contact identification and listing were ongoing.
It added that laboratory tests were being conducted to determine whether the suspected cases were Ebola infections.
The NCDC, however, cautioned that the identification of suspected cases does not mean the disease has been confirmed, stressing that confirmation would depend on laboratory results.
The agency urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and comply with public health guidance to reduce the risk of infection.
It said further updates would be provided as verified information becomes available.
