A response to the ADC Platform and Nasir El-Rufai’s recent claims, by Umar Nuhu
It is important to take a closer look at the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition and the message being pushed by some of its key figures, especially Nasir El-Rufai, regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the current government.
Healthy political opposition is necessary in any democracy. However, opposition must be based on facts, serious ideas, and a sincere vision for the country. What we are seeing from the ADC is mostly political theatre and repositioning, not genuine national concern.
- The ADC Coalition Is Not New or Fresh
Despite trying to present itself as a new political force, the ADC is driven by the same old power brokers who have been part of Nigeria’s politics for decades. Figures like Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and now Nasir El-Rufai are not new faces. This is not a youth-driven or innovation-based platform. Even youth groups have already dismissed the coalition as an elite gathering designed for personal interest rather than national development.
- El-Rufai’s Sudden Turn Against Tinubu Raises Questions
El-Rufai has spent years inside the political establishment. His sudden attempt to position himself as a champion of accountability does not match his long record. More importantly, when members of the ADC Vanguard circulated posts accusing the Tinubu government of corruption, El-Rufai himself publicly warned them to stop fabricating statements in his name. This clearly shows confusion and internal contradictions within the ADC.
If simple statements within their own party can be confused, misrepresented, or denied, how can Nigerians trust them to provide stable leadership?
- The Claims About Tinubu “Looting” the Country Are Not Backed By Evidence
Anyone can make accusations, especially during political battles. What matters is proof. So far, there is no verified evidence from any recognized financial investigation or public accountability body to support the claim that President Tinubu is “looting” the nation’s funds.
Meanwhile, the Tinubu administration continues to record progress in anti-corruption enforcement. Several reports have highlighted the number of EFCC convictions and ongoing reforms in the economic sector. These are concrete steps that cannot be swept aside with sensational political statements.
- Tinubu’s Government Has Been Working, Despite Challenges
From economic restructuring to security improvement and administrative reforms, the current government has taken measurable actions. No administration is perfect, but dismissing all its progress without offering credible alternatives is not responsible politics. Nigeria needs solutions grounded in strategy, not shouting matches on social media.
- What the ADC Is Really Offering
The ADC has branded itself as a rescue mission, promising to take over power from the current government. But when you examine the lineup of its leaders, what you see is not a national rescue plan. What you see is a mixture of frustrated political figures who lost influence in their former parties and are now regrouping in search of relevance.
This is not the bold, forward-thinking political alternative Nigerians have been calling for.
Final Thought;
Opposition is welcome. Critique is healthy. But it must be based on truth and a real plan for Nigeria. What the ADC is offering is political noise without verified facts. Nigerians deserve accountability, stability, and real development ideas. Recycling elites under a new platform cannot replace genuine leadership.
