Residents of Olorunsogo community in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, staged a remembrance march on Wednesday, calling for justice over the 2022 murder of Felicia Oluwadare.
Speaking to newsmen, community leader Obembe Olanrewaju said Felicia, daughter of Mr Timothy and Mrs Folasade Oluwadare, was abducted alongside her mother on 21 November 2022 while travelling on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. “They were taken into the bush and held hostage for several days,” he added.
Obembe explained that Felicia suffered physical and sexual abuse before being shot by her captors.
“Her mother survived after the family paid a ransom, but the ordeal left her with lasting trauma. The family later relocated from the community following threats and fears of further attacks. Three years on, the case remains unresolved, with no arrests made,” he said.
Another community leader added, “We are out here today because justice has been denied for too long. This was not just a kidnap; it was a brutal murder of an innocent daughter of our land. The family has suffered in silence, and our community has lived in fear since then.”
During the march, women’s groups, youth organisations, and civil society advocates carried placards demanding justice and improved security on highways.
The community announced plans to petition the Ekiti State Government, the Oyo State Police Command, and federal security agencies to ensure those responsible for Felicia’s death are brought to justice.
