Kidnapped JCI president regains freedom in Oyo

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The president of Junior Chamber International (JCI), Ibukunoluwa Otesile, has regained her freedom days after being abducted in Ibadan. Otesile, who also serves as the deputy coordinator of the Child Protection Network (CPN) in Oyo State, was taken last Thursday outside her father’s residence in the General Gas area of Ibadan.
Security sources confirmed her release on Wednesday night, noting that she had been safely recovered and reunited with her family. The details of the rescue operation were not immediately disclosed, but authorities indicated that coordinated efforts contributed to her return.
The state coordinator of the Child Protection Network, Dr. Rosemary Osogbo, also confirmed the development. She expressed relief and gratitude on behalf of the organisation, noting that Otesile is now back home under the care of her loved ones.
In a statement shared on social media, the civil society organisation overseeing child protection efforts in the state thanked God for Otesile’s safe return. The group also praised everyone who supported, prayed, or assisted in efforts to secure her release.
Through the organisation, the family of the victim appealed to the public for privacy as they recover from the traumatic experience. “We would not be entertaining visitors for now. Kindly bear with us,” the statement read.
Otesile’s abduction sparked public concern, especially among advocacy groups and civil society organisations in Oyo State, due to her active role in child protection and community development. Several organisations issued solidarity statements calling for swift action.
Authorities have not yet provided details on any arrests or whether a ransom was paid, but security agencies maintain that investigations are ongoing.
