Staff of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Ondo State Government and the university management over unpaid salaries and allowances.

The ultimatum was announced at a congress of the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).

In a communique issued after the meeting, the unions demanded the immediate settlement of all outstanding entitlements owed to their members.

The document was jointly signed by the SSANU chairman at AAUA, Comrade A. Olutayo Ogungbeni; NASU chairman, Comrade Clement Abiodun Ekundayo; and NAAT chairman, Comrade Johnson O. Fagbemi.

The unions listed the unpaid benefits to include 54 months’ arrears of the 2019 national minimum wage, promotion arrears, gratuities for retired members, and five years of excess workload allowances.

Other demands include unpaid salary increments, third-party deductions, entitlements of reabsorbed staff, and the implementation of recommendations of the career structure committee.

The workers warned that failure to meet their demands within 14 days would trigger an industrial crisis that could disrupt academic activities.

They called on the Ondo State Government, the university’s governing council, and management to act urgently to avert a shutdown of the institution.
