The Students’ Union Government of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has moved to correct conflicting reports surrounding the fatal accident involving students on the Ilesha highway.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the union said inaccurate figures circulating on social media had created confusion and could tarnish the image of the institution.

The clarification, according to the union, was based on official records obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps and Zion Hospital, Ilesha, where the victims were initially treated.

The union disclosed that seven victims were taken to the hospital after the crash, contrary to exaggerated claims making the rounds online.

It stated that three persons died in the incident, while four others sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical care.

Those injured include Busayo Balogun and Oluwaseun Okunti, both 400-level Business Administration students; Balogun Bolaji, a 100-level English Studies student; and Blessing, a student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic who has since been discharged.

The union added that the deceased were identified as Chiamaka Jessica, a 200-level Performing Arts student of AAUA; the vehicle’s driver; and another female victim whose identity is yet to be confirmed, while urging the public to shun rumours and rely on verified information.
