Snub Claim: I didn’t deliberately ignore Alaafin- Olubadan
By Adejayan Gbenga
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Royal Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has refuted claims that he deliberately ignored the Alaafin of Oyo at a recent public function, saying the incident was neither intentional nor disrespectful.
The monarch made the clarification during an exclusive interview with Daily Independent journalist in Ibadan, following widespread reactions on social media over a video clip that suggested a breach of royal protocol.
Oba Ladoja explained that he arrived at the event slightly late and was guided by protocol to take his seat quietly so as not to interrupt the proceedings.
He said his designated seat was positioned between different sections of the venue, which required him to move through some areas before realising that other dignitaries had already changed positions.
According to the Olubadan, his movements were purely circumstantial and should not be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to avoid or slight any traditional ruler.
He expressed concern that selective video clips circulating online had fuelled false narratives, noting that full footage of the event would show him greeting several dignitaries present.
The Olubadan added that necessary communication had been made to clear any misunderstanding, stressing that there was no tension or offence between the traditional institutions involved.
The clarification comes amid public debate over royal protocol in Oyo State, with observers urging restraint and respect for traditional institutions, which continue to play a key role in promoting unity and social cohesion.
