The Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, has pledged to improve infrastructure, strengthen staff and student welfare, and introduce innovative funding strategies to reposition the institution.
Obamuyi gave the assurance after a two-day inspection of facilities across the university, saying the tour enabled him to assess the state of infrastructure and identify areas requiring immediate attention.
The vice-chancellor, who is a professor of finance, said his administration would adopt sustainable funding approaches to support infrastructure development and maintenance while ensuring the effective use of existing facilities.
He added that staff welfare, students’ wellbeing, capacity building and collaboration among all stakeholders would remain central to his administration’s agenda, stressing that every department had a role to play in the university’s growth.
“We have gone round the campus and my impression is encouraging, but there is still room for improvement. The period before I assumed office was a time of preparation, and now we are focused on providing solutions to the challenges before us,” he said.
Obamuyi also commended previous administrations for laying a solid foundation for the institution’s development, noting that his administration would build on the achievements to take the university to greater heights.
He equally stressed the need for a sustainable maintenance culture, saying every infrastructure project should include a dedicated provision for maintenance to ensure facilities remain functional and durable over time.
The vice chancellor said he had directed the relevant units to address the identified challenges and given them clear deadlines, assuring members of the university community that they would begin to see positive changes soon.
