Abiodun urges internal democracy as Ogun APC re-elects Sanusi as Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has elected Chief Yemi Sanusi and 35 others as members of its State Executive Committee for a four-year term.

The election was ratified through a voice affirmation by 1,180 delegates at the State Congress held at the June 12 Cultural Centre. The exercise was supervised by the APC Congress Committee Chairman, Chief Wale Ohu, alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Sanusi was returned as State Chairman. Other officials elected include Alhaja Aminat Adigun as State Women Leader, Prince Aderibigbe Tella as State Secretary, and Chief Yemi Adelani as State Organising Secretary.

Speaking at the event, Governor Dapo Abiodun stressed that internal democracy must be practised sincerely, not merely proclaimed, urging the party to reject patronage politics and embrace transparency.

He said sustainable electoral victories would depend on organisational discipline, grassroots engagement, and clear, service-driven messaging. The governor commended delegates for affirming the consensus in line with their conscience.

Looking ahead to 2027, Abiodun urged members to intensify engagement across wards and local governments, communicate achievements honestly, and inspire confidence among undecided voters. He also appealed to unsuccessful aspirants to remain loyal and united.

The governor reminded the new executives that their roles are strategic, charging them to uphold the party’s constitution, promote unity, reconcile aggrieved members, and ensure inclusiveness for youths and women.

In his acceptance speech, Sanusi thanked Governor Abiodun and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the party, pledging to reinforce party structures, promote fairness and discipline, and expand opportunities for young people within the APC.
