The Accord Party has distanced itself from a political coalition meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where 14 parties were reportedly said to have agreed to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party insisted it neither attended the meeting nor authorised anyone to represent it, stressing that it did not endorse any of the decisions reached at the gathering.
The clarification was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, on behalf of the leadership led by Maxwell Mgbudem.
The party described the occurrence as unfair and misleading to include its name among those listed as participants in the coalition.
According to the statement, the party warned politicians against actions capable of creating political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that it was unaware of the coalition meeting and its resolutions.
While acknowledging that political parties have the right to form alliances, the party emphasised that such agreements should only involve parties that were directly part of the discussions.
The party further described its inclusion in the coalition as reckless and demanded that its name be removed from the list of participating parties.
It added that its focus remains on preparations for the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti State and Osun State, as well as broader strategies ahead of the 2027 polls.
