A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Ambassador Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja, has declared his interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State via the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Arapaja made his declaration in a statement addressed to leaders and members of the party as well as residents of the state, stating that his ambition is driven by a commitment to sustain ongoing development and strengthen governance in Oyo State.
His political journey spans over three decades, including under the late political leader, Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu.
Addressing residents, the former deputy governor pledged to sustain the developmental strides recorded under the administration of Seyi Makinde, particularly through the “Omituntun” agenda, which he said has improved infrastructure, education, healthcare, and civil service welfare in the state.
According to him, Oyo State requires experienced leadership capable of consolidating existing achievements and ensuring continued progress rather than introducing uncertain policies.
Arapaja further highlighted his experience across various levels of governance, noting that he previously served as chairman of Ibadan South-East LGA for two terms, member of the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007, and Deputy Governor of Oyo State from 2007 to 2011.
He also served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Iran and Jordan between 2012 and 2015 and has held several leadership positions within the PDP, including National Vice Chairman (South-West), Deputy National Chairman (South), and currently National Secretary of the party.
He equally called on party members to remain united and support his aspiration, assuring stakeholders of inclusive leadership that prioritises the welfare of residents across the state.
