Actress Yetunde Wunmi recounts 2006 NDLEA arrest, London ban
Nigerian actress Taiwo Akinwande, popularly known as Yetunde Wunmi, has recounted her ordeal 20 years after she was arrested for a drug-related offence.
In September 2006, Wunmi was arrested by officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while she was on her way to Europe.
The actress, who was arrested for possession of cocaine, was later sentenced to two years in prison.
Speaking in an interview with Feel Right TV, Akinwande recalled questioning how she found herself in such a situation, saying she once possessed the gift of foresight but could not explain why it deserted her when it mattered most.
She said she had dreamt about the incident twice and now sees the ordeal as divine protection from a worse fate, wondering whether a greater calamity had been averted.
Akinwande expressed gratitude to God and vowed never to repeat the act, while also acknowledging the support she received from acquaintances and strangers.
“Before that incident that happened to me that caused my ban from entering London again, the day they arrested me, it got to a stage that I thought about it that ‘why me? How did I get here? Am I sleeping or dreaming?’” she said.
“I used to have a gift at a time that I would have foreseen whatever would happen. I do not know why I no longer have that gift. I dreamt about the incident twice,” she added.
