ADC accuses Tinubu, PDP governors of insensitivity amid killings in North-West

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over their responses to the worsening insecurity in Katsina and Zamfara states.

In a statement on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described last week’s massacre in Malumfashi, Katsina State — where dozens of worshippers and villagers were killed — as further evidence of Nigeria’s “collapsed security architecture.” The party noted that over 140 lives have been lost to violent attacks in Katsina and Zamfara within the past two months.

The ADC accused President Tinubu of neglecting pressing domestic security concerns, alleging that he has been “jet-setting across the world” instead of addressing the crisis. The party said the President has yet to issue a direct condolence message to bereaved families.

The opposition party also condemned PDP governors for holding a political meeting in Zamfara shortly after the massacre, describing the action as “insensitive” to the grief of affected communities.

“It is disheartening that rather than confronting these tragedies with the seriousness they demand, the President chases photo opportunities abroad, while PDP governors see nothing wrong in holding political gatherings in a state still in mourning,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC further said that the recent suggestion by the Chief of Defence Staff that citizens should learn self-defence was a clear admission of the government’s failure to secure lives and property.

The party urged President Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara, re-evaluate Nigeria’s internal defence system, and implement urgent reforms to address insecurity.
