ADC gives Atiku Abubakar ultimatum to register as member in Adamawa

By Kunle Sanni –
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has issued a deadline to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, urging him to formally register as a member of the party before the end of the year.
In an interview with Punch, Shehu Yohanna, the state chairman of the ADC, said only duly registered members would be recognized as legitimate stakeholders of the party after the deadline.
“Atiku Abubakar should go to his ward in Jada Local Government and register. Babachir should go to his ward in Hong Local Government and register,” Yohanna said.
“That is the only way they can be treated as legitimate members of the party. You cannot be taking decisions for a party you are not constitutionally a member of. All of you should register for the greatness of our party.”
Yohanna also stressed that it was unlawful for anyone to hold leadership roles at the national level without proper registration, describing such actions as undermining the party’s credibility.
Last week, Bolaji Abdullahi, interim national publicity secretary of the ADC, said the party had directed all members to resign from their former parties, though no timeline was specified.
The ultimatum comes months after a coalition of opposition politicians and ADC leaders adopted the party as a platform for the 2027 general elections.
