Auto crash claims five lives in Ondo as FRSC cautions drivers

By Boye Oyeyemi –

No fewer than five persons, including two children, lost their lives in a fatal road accident on the Akure/Ado highway along Iju/Itaogbolu in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The accident involved a commercial bus conveying passengers and a truck in a head-on collision after the bus driver reportedly lost control.

Eyewitnesses said the victims died instantly, with their remains lying by the roadside.

One of the witnesses, Adeola Igbekele, described the crash as horrific, blaming it on reckless driving.

“It was a sad scene. The drivers were too reckless on the road. Sadly, five persons, including two toddlers, died in the crash. It took the timely arrival of emergency vehicles and personnel to rescue the remaining passengers,” Igbekele said.

The incident caused heavy traffic on the busy highway until motorists and residents came to the aid of survivors before emergency responders arrived.

Confirming the development, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, said the crash was caused by speeding.

Ibitoye explained that the corps had evacuated the remains of the victims, two males and three females, and deposited them at the State Specialist Hospital mortuary in Akure, the state capital.
