ADC releases timetable for 2026 primaries, fixes presidential poll for May 25

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has released its timetable for the 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, outlining key dates and guidelines for aspirants.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the schedule underscores its commitment to internal democracy and compliance with electoral laws.

“The timetable reflects the party’s commitment to internal democracy, orderliness, and full compliance with electoral guidelines,” the statement read.

According to the party, the process is already underway, with the collection of application forms running from April 1 to May 4, 2026. The sale of nomination forms will take place from May 5 to May 10, while submission of completed forms is scheduled for May 11 to May 13.

Screening of aspirants will hold from May 14 to May 15, with results to be published on May 17. Appeals are slated for May 18 to May 19, while the final list of cleared aspirants will be released on May 20.

The party said, “The party’s primary elections will commence on May 21, 2026, with elections for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats holding simultaneously at the ward level.”

It added that governorship primaries will take place on May 22, while “the Presidential Primary is scheduled for May 25, 2026.”

A meeting of the National Executive Committee will follow on May 26, ahead of a Special National Convention on May 27 for final ratifications.
