Ekiti police debunk security vacuum claims in Eda Oniyo community

The Ekiti State Police Command has rejected claims of a security lapse in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, insisting that adequate security presence exists in the area following the recent attack on a Christ Apostolic Church programme.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Sunday, described reports alleging the absence of security operatives as misleading and politically driven.
“The claim of a security vacuum in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti is totally false and an attempt to discredit the efforts of security agencies,” the statement read.
The controversy arose after a viral video alleged that the lack of security presence contributed to the attack on worshippers during the church event.
Responding, the police clarified that although the community lacks a divisional headquarters, it is under the jurisdiction of the Iye-Ekiti Divisional Police Headquarters, which conducts routine patrols.
“Eda Oniyo-Ekiti is adequately covered through regular visibility patrols from Iye-Ekiti,” the command stated.
The police added that three military bases and multiple checkpoints operate within the area, with continuous patrols supporting ongoing security operations.
The police also disclosed that a joint security outfit comprising the military, DSS, NSCDC, Amotekun, local vigilantes, and hunters had been deployed to reinforce surveillance across vulnerable communities.
