ADC stakeholders accuse El-Rufai of undermining party ahead of 2027 polls
Some stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State have accused former governor Nasir El-Rufai of working to destabilize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a report by TheCable, at a press conference on Saturday, Adamu Dattijo, who represented party stakeholders from all 23 local government areas, alleged that El-Rufai and his former aides — Ja’afaru Sani and Bashir Sa’idu — were attempting to weaken the ADC’s structures and impose their loyalists on the party.
Dattijo claimed the former governor was sidelining the recognized leadership of the ADC in favor of “an autocratic style of decision-making,” holding private meetings only with “personal loyalists and remnants of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)” instead of engaging the wider party.
“A political party is built on inclusion, consultation, and loyalty to its structures — not on the whims of one individual or a few allies,” Dattijo said.
The stakeholders also accused El-Rufai of plotting to hijack political coalition efforts in the state by appointing transition leaders across parties without involving the ADC leadership. They described the move as an attempt to create “false leadership” and erode the authority of executives recognized by law.
Dattijo warned that the activities of El-Rufai and his loyalists were causing deep divisions within the Kaduna chapter of the party.
“Instead of building unity, they are building enmity. Instead of mobilizing for 2027, they are scattering the house we have all built with sweat and sacrifice,” he said.
The group called on the national leadership of the ADC to intervene immediately to prevent further crisis.
