ADC will prioritise unity, national interest over personal ambition — Obi

Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi has said that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will prioritise unity and national interest as it proceeds with its planned convention despite internal crisis and court cases affecting the party.
He stated this on Monday while appearing as a guest on the Arise TV Prime Time programme.
When asked whether he feared not securing the party’s presidential ticket, Obi said he was not driven by personal ambition. “I have never fought any cause in order to fulfil my personal ambitions but for the benefit of the people,” he said.
He added that the coalition behind the ADC was formed to unite political actors to change what he described as a “structure of criminality” in governance.
Responding to questions about the composition of the coalition, he said what mattered was the current commitment of individuals, not their past political affiliations.
Asked whether he would support another candidate if he did not secure the party’s presidential ticket, Obi affirmed that the coalition was made up of leaders willing to make sacrifices, adding that all members would support whoever emerged as the flagbearer.
On his chances of gaining support in northern Nigeria, including backing from Nasir El-Rufai and Rabiu Kwankwaso, Obi said he had made significant investments in the region and would prioritise agriculture as a major revenue source if elected president.
He said his administration would not tolerate negotiations with kidnappers or bandits, insisting that decisive action would be taken to end insecurity. “We will be decisive, bring governance closer to the people, fight corruption to a standstill, and reduce waste and excessive borrowing,” he said.
