Adelabu denies calling on Nigerians to reject APC, dismisses viral report

The immediate past Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has denied calling on Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing a viral report attributed to him as false, misleading and malicious.
In a statement issued in October 2026, his media office said the report was intended to undermine his loyalty to the APC and create friction between him, President Bola Tinubu and the party’s leadership.
The statement maintained that Adelabu remained committed to the APC and loyal to Tinubu, citing his service as minister under the APC-led Federal Government and his political history within the party.
It acknowledged that Adelabu had grievances over the APC governorship nomination process in Oyo State, which it alleged was marred by controversy over the conduct of the primary election and the non-release of results. However, it said he had repeatedly stated that he had no intention of leaving the party.
According to the statement, Adelabu’s demand for transparency, fairness and internal democracy should not be interpreted as disloyalty or a call for Nigerians to reject the APC.
The media office clarified that the video circulating online was an excerpt from a 2022 interview Adelabu granted when he was the governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State. It said he had argued that voters should consider the credibility and character of individual candidates, rather than rely solely on political parties.
The statement insisted that the remarks were made in the context of the 2022 political environment and did not amount to a call to reject the APC or oppose Tinubu’s presidency. It challenged those circulating the video to publish the full, unedited interview and alleged that the excerpts were being presented out of context.
The media office urged APC members, the media and the public to verify information before sharing it, reaffirming Adelabu’s loyalty to Tinubu and commitment to the party.
