Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged a plot by opposition parties to disrupt the upcoming Local Government elections, scheduled for February 22.

In a statement, Adeleke revealed credible reports indicating plans to launch attacks on local government secretariats across the state and target leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He warned that such actions were aimed at creating chaos and pushing for a state of emergency declaration.

The governor condemned the actions of opposition politicians, particularly from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of spreading false news and fabricating court rulings instead of preparing for the elections.

Adeleke reiterated the validity of a court judgment nullifying the 2022 local government elections and maintained that the recent ruling from the Court of Appeal in Akure did not affect this earlier judgment.

He directed security agencies to ensure the state’s safety and apprehend any troublemakers, emphasizing the government’s determination to maintain peace and law and order in Osun.

“I urge citizens and residents to go about their activities without fear or intimidation. The government is committed to keeping the streets safe from anti-democratic elements,” Adeleke said.
