Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has distributed free health insurance cards and life-support gadgets to about 10,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs) across the state.
During an official presentation ceremony at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo, the governor also provided various assistive devices, including manual and automated wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, talking watches, artificial limbs, hearing aids, ultraviolet umbrellas, creams and glasses for albinos, and other essential gadgets.
Expressing his joy, Adeleke said:
“I am extremely glad to present the OHIS card, granting access to free healthcare, to persons living with disabilities across the state. Beyond the cards, we are also providing life-support gadgets and state-of-the-art medical aids to improve their quality of life.
“They are my people; they voted for me and have continued to support me. Some will also undergo free surgical procedures to address their health challenges.”
The governor revealed that his administration has successfully enrolled over 25,000 pensioners in the Osun State Social Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), granting them free and unlimited access to healthcare services.
He further noted that the state has collaborated with Rotary International to provide free medical and surgical outreach programs, benefitting numerous senior citizens.
Dr. Rasaq Akindele, Executive Secretary of the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA), highlighted the agency’s accomplishments under Adeleke’s leadership.
These include the complete digitalization of operations, consistent provision of essential drugs to partner healthcare facilities, major support for catastrophic medical conditions, and the delivery of multimillion-naira equipment to accredited government hospitals.
