By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an urgent intervention in the Ipetumodu traditional leadership crisis following the reported jailing of Oba Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu, in the United States of America.
The Governor directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Dosu Babatunde, to immediately step into the matter and ensure peace and stability in the community.
In a related development, the State Executive Council approved the elevation of several minor chiefs to Part II status and confirmed the appointment of Prince Adeleke Saheed Adeyemi as the Olokusa of Okusa in Egbedore Local Government Area.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, these were among the resolutions reached at the council’s meeting held Friday evening in Osogbo. The meeting stretched late into the night, with the Governor charging his cabinet to remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy.
The council also approved the constitution of a high-powered committee to urgently address manpower needs in the health and education sectors.
On infrastructure, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing key ongoing projects— including the Ilesa dualisation, Ile-Ife flyover, Oke-Fia/Lameco flyovers, and the Iwo dualisation—on schedule. He urged the Ministry of Works to intensify efforts to meet all delivery deadlines.
The Governor further directed the Commissioner for Energy, Adeyemo Festus, to develop an implementation plan for the newly passed State Electricity Market Law, including seeking necessary support from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
In the area of science and technology, Adeleke tasked the Ministry of Science and Innovations to fast-track the state’s ICT and Tech Innovation policies. He also charged the ministry with developing a comprehensive roadmap for the application of Artificial Intelligence and blockchain technology in the state.
