AbdulRazaq hails Kwara community for repelling attack, mourns fallen vigilante
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has praised the people of Isin Local Government Area for their bravery in repelling an armed attack on Eleyin community, describing their action as a courageous stand against criminality.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the Governor commended the local vigilante groups from Isin and Irepodun for their firm and patriotic resistance, which reportedly led to the neutralisation of several armed assailants during the encounter.
“In addition to our support for the security agencies, I assure our communities of continuous backing to resist violent attacks. I, therefore, commend the bravery of the Isin and Irepodun vigilante who mounted a spirited resistance against the criminals,” the Governor said.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Saheed Adeshina, a member of the vigilante group who sustained fatal injuries during the operation. He offered his condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of government support. “May God repose his soul. His family is assured of our prayers and support at this difficult moment,” he added.
In recognition of his sacrifice, the Governor approved a ₦10 million financial support package for the family of the fallen vigilante, describing Adeshina’s courage as a testament to the community’s determination to stand up against violence.
He also announced that the state government would replace the motorcycles lost during the confrontation and increase logistical support for both security agencies and local vigilantes across Kwara State.
Governor AbdulRazaq noted that the successful pushback against the attackers sent a strong message that Kwarans would not tolerate criminal incursions, and warned against actions—such as violent protests—that could destabilize the state’s collective wellbeing.
He further revealed that the Nigerian Army has extended Operation Fansan Yamma to Kwara, reinforcing the government’s collaboration with security agencies and local groups to rid the state of criminal elements and strengthen public safety.
